Fall Car Care Month Checklist: Winter is Coming
To see the actual page, please visit: http://www.carcare.org/2014/09/fall-car-care-month-checklist-winter-way/
We have teamed up with Be Car Care Aware to help you with any questions you may have about caring for your vehicle!

October is Fall Car Care Month, and the Car Care Council reminds motorists that checking their vehicles before the temperatures drop is a sensible way to avoid being stranded out in the cold and the unexpected expense of emergency repairs.
“The last thing any driver needs is a vehicle that breaks down in cold, harsh winter weather. Winter magnifies existing problems like hard starts, sluggish performance and rough idling,” said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council. “Whether you perform the check or maintenance yourself or go to the repair shop, it’s a small investment of time and money to ensure peace of mind, and help avoid the cost and hassle of a breakdown during severe weather.”
The Car Care Council recommends the following Fall Car Care Month checklist to make sure your vehicle is ready for cold winter weather ahead.
Heating, Wipers & Lights
  • Make sure heaters, defrosters and wipers work properly.
  • Consider winter wiper blades and use cold-weather washer fluid. As a general rule, wiper blades should be replaced every six months.
  • Check to see that all exterior and interior lights work and headlights are properly aimed.
Tires & Brakes
Tire Tread- compare
  • Check the tire tread depth and tire pressure of all tires, including the spare. If snow and ice are a problem in your area, consider special tires designed to grip slick roads.
  • During winter, tire pressure should be checked weekly.
  • Have the brakes checked. The braking system is the vehicle’s most important safety item.
Gas, Oil & Filters
  • Keep your gas tank at least half full throughout the cold weather to prevent moisture from forming in gas lines and possibly freezing.
  • Be diligent about changing the oil and filter at recommended intervals. Dirty oil can spell trouble in winter. Consider changing to “winter weight” oil if you live in a cold climate.
  • Check the fuel, air and transmission filters at the same time.
System Checks – Charging, Cooling & Exhaust
  • Have the battery and charging system checked, as cold weather is hard on batteries.
  • Clean, flush and put new antifreeze in the cooling system. As a rule of thumb, this should be done every two years.
  • Have the exhaust system checked for carbon monoxide leaks, which can be especially dangerous during cold weather driving when windows are closed.
Pack the Essentials
Prepare Your Care
  • Make sure that your ice scraper and snow brush are accessible and ready to use.
  • Stock an emergency kit with jumper cables, a flashlight, blankets, extra clothes, bottled water, nonperishable food and a first aid kit with any needed medication.
  • Order a free copy of the recently-updated 80-page Car Care Guide for your glove box at www.carcare.org/car-care-guide.
The Car Care Council is the source of information for the “Be Car Care Aware” consumer education campaign promoting the benefits of regular vehicle care, maintenance and repair to consumers. For a free copy of the council’s popular Car Care Guide or for more information, visit www.carcare.org.

What's Been Going On At Car ER

First of all, I just wanted to apologize for taking an insane amount of time to give any updates whatsoever. I'm new to the blogging world and still learning a lot so you'll have to bear with me. Thanks!
So I wanted to give you all a little update about what's been going on here at Car ER. Particularly what kind of jobs we've been doing and what we've been preoccupied with. Later on, I will do a post of just mostly before and after pictures. (and hopefully it'll be within a couple weeks, not months like this post)

So now, here we go!

Repair / Refinish the right rear quarter panel on this Mercury Mariner.

In case anyone wondered what paint looks like in a can. :)

Refinish this entire Honda Accord. The car was keyed, so guys... Don't upset your girlfriends. (or vise versa)  =D

This Kia had a "fender bender."

We were celebrating "National Fix Your Prius Day!" :) (yeah, I just made that up)

This Mazda was hit on the underside in the front. Getting some front end parts replaced, including it's bolt on radiator support.

Making this VW Passats' dents go away.

This Chevy Avalanche getting ready for some front end work!

Hope you all enjoyed our projects! Feel free to ask any questions in the comments below. Thanks for reading! Have an amazing day!

Car Care Tips
Have a Clean Air Filter: Check your engine air filter every couple of months and when it's dirty, change it! A clean air filter is not only better for your engine but also for your fuel economy. The job is fairly simple and inexpensive and if you don't know how to do it, your owners manual should have information on how to complete the job. If you don't know which filter you need, stop by your local Advance Auto Parts or other parts store and ask them for the filter that best suits your needs!

Remove the Salt From Your Car: Although having salt on your vehicles paint for a week should not severely affect it, it may start doing some damage to your suspension components after a while. Salt that is on the metal components of your suspension may start to rust. My recommendation is that you stop by a car wash that has the ability to wash the undercarriage of your vehicle, that way it will remove the salt from the metals and reduce the risk of corrosion over time. Stay safe this winter!
